Formdesk is funny :)

Browsing the web, doing some research on contact forms, my hobby, I found (by a Google Ad) another form creator: Formdesk. Looking at their features and pricing, I found the "We create your form" link, in their menu. Curious young man as I am, I wanted to see how much would it cost if they create your form. The simplest form possible, 2 fields (Name and Email, for example), no calculations, no dependencies.

OMG OMG OMG! €200 for such a form ?! Indeed, Formdesk is funny :)

  1. Yup, you're right about the price. You could get a licence for a Office Pack for that amount of money and with just a little practice you can get what you want, not only forms :p Though it's the first time I heard about the ideea and if it would have been (a lot) cheaper i would have used it.

  2. and when I mean you can use Office, I mean you can cheat... you can save as html file; or you can give it to your site admin...

  3. hmmm.... I'm obviously just a rookie at this form stuff. I saw your article about "What every contact form should have" so i get it now that it is more to it than text online :p but i must say i was right about the price...but then you can use some site like 123ContactForm where it's free.

  4. Actually Formdesk is pretty good. Here's why. You can generate forms very quickly, they are immediately online. There's no ftp or anything. Next, they have a statistics analyser built in - so you don't have to download and then work the data. Then, you can also publish the stats - all realtime directly on the web. You can password protect that, very simply. OK - so that's the start.

Next, you can set up many forms - and it's all one price - so that 200 is not the end of the story. The number of form submissions is up to 1000 (I think) in the basic package. However, if you download the submissions the count resets, so there's no real limit.

Also, you can build a scoring system into the answers. Quite cool, if you work through it. That means submissions of high value get prioritised.

Finally, the form submissions can be sms or emailed to any destination (or multiple desitnations). So, you can see exactly what people are responding immediately - not when you get back to the office.

Not bad, and no techical staff in sight.

  5. Formdesk is actually very cheap. It doesn't make sense to use formdesk to create a simple form! You can do it in HTML in less than 5 minutes.

I needed a complex system where Formdesk was the ONLY application which made it possible with just some clicks.

The system I required was to create multiple forms, then an agent logs in, his username is saved so that you know who filled the form. When the form is saved, an email is sent to the client to ask him to accept or reject the form. There are multiple clients but a client can only see his respective forms. There is also more than this but I don't need to go into great detail.

Now tell me, is 200 euros worthit for such an application? :) You have to use something for what it was intended to do. Formdesk was not targeted for just implementing some forms. It is targeted for complex systems revolving around forms, also called a Form Management System.

  6. Formdesk offers a lot more functionality than other online form generators/companies I've looked at.

  7. I've searched through many forms solutions. You first think that your form is a simple one that would form in almost any solution on the web. When I looked at the Formdesk features however, I found myself in a candy store. After just a few clicks my user was able to store his entries and continue later, easily create a very intelligent branch - logic, send the completed form as a pdf document to the user and have my collegue receive an email only when a parking place is required.
We ended up in a subscription quite more expensive than the 200 euro but we find it worth it having almost 30 forms in our account of which some seriously saved us a lot of money.

But still, 200 euros for a form that you can create yourself in Formdesk within 20 seconds....well at least it sounds funny.

  8. I love Formdesk, although from this it appears they could use a little marketing advice. The forms are so easy to create yourself, and I was not even aware that you could have them do it for you. $50 a year is all I pay....if I needed more data storage I would have to pay more but still reasonable. I use it for membership forms, association and publication purchases. Have used it for over 5 years with good results.

  9. You could try cloudformz.com too. Has the same amount or more features for a one time license (E199) for 25 forms without limits. The only thing is, it's Dutch
